Dowdstown Charlie will be striving for just his fourth career win in 42-starts when he takes his place in the Hawkesbury Living Benchmark 68 Handicap (1600m) at Hawkesbury on Sunday.

Dowdstown Charlie has promised plenty but failed to deliver on many occasions but continues to turn in solid racetrack performances.

In six of his seven runs this time in Dowdstown Charlie has finished less than three lengths from the winner with five of those runs at metropolitan venues including a fourth at Rosehill last time out finishing just under three-lengths from Telepathic at Rosehill on November 14.

Whilst some would argue that Dowdstown Charlie has developed into a non-winner it is clear the son of My Boy Charlie needs the sting out of the ground to be a winning chance.

Dowdstown Charlie's career statistics are telling.

After 41-start he is still a maiden from 23 goes on good ground with his record on wet tracks reading three wins and five placings from 16 starts, that record improves even further when his form is filtered to only include runs on ground designated as soft with two wins and two placings from nine starts.

With a soft five track posted for Hawkesbury on Sunday, Dowdstown Charlie won't get a better chance to win another race.
