Greg Polson's view - Drop in field strength the key to Cootamundra Cup

Murray will saddle up Darci's Affair in the Cup on Sunday with Brendon Ward in the saddle.

Darci's Affair looks well placed on Sunday stepping back up to the mile.

The five-year-old son of Darci Brahma won a class three handicap at Goulburn on September 3 carrying 60kg in a race that carried a field strength figure of 59 based on benchmark handicap ratings before chasing home two promising gallopers in War Jet and Just A Blur in the Tony Campbell Cup at Canberra on September 25 in a race with a field strength figure of 75.

Sunday's Cootamundra Cup has a field strength figure of 65 so is close to three lengths weaker than the field Darci's Affair opposed last time out.

The weights and measures suggest Darci's Affair isn't badly treated with 58.5kg on Sunday and back to his preferred 1600 metre distance is the one to beat.

The Bruce Cross-trained Salote looks the quinella horse down on the minimum from an ideal gate.
