Greg Polson's view - Big day at Tuncurry

The formation of the Tuncurry race track has been a labour of love for a team of volunteers.

Regular racing on the course has been the goal since the club was formed in 1980 with the dream realised when the first race meeting was conducted in 2009.

Sixteen meetings have been held on the track with the club hosting its first TAB meeting in August 29.

Club Secretary Adrian Wood reported that the initial TAB Saturday Matinee Meeting saw a turnover of $792,000 from six races with champion jockey Robert Thompson riding at the track for the first time giving the track glowing praise.

Clearly the track has been a great success with connections supporting Tuesday's standalone TAB meeting in big numbers.

From a punting perspective it could pay to stick with a local on Tuesday.

Arise Augustus is trained on the track by Terry Evans and looks the horse to beat in the First State Conveyancing Forster/Taree Benchmark 70 Handicap (1000m).

The five-year-old son of Holy Roman Emperor will be resuming from a 41-day let-up after being in a purple patch of form before the break winning four from five including a benchmark 65 at Wyong on October 10.

Arise Augustus would only need to be in similar form to be the horse to beat on Tuesday and has the added advantage of having Robert Thompson in the saddle.
