From rags to Oaks: Set Square's journey

Set Square
Set Square stormed to victory in the Group One race for jockey Hugh Bowman at just her fourth start, and only six weeks after starting her racing career.
A modest third in a maiden at country Donald in Victoria in mid-September was followed by a Ballarat maiden win.
Then Set Square rocketed into Oaks calculations with a win at Caulfield in the Ethereal Stakes over 2000m - forcing her large group of owners into a big decision.
Set Square wasn't entered for the race initially. But Maher and the owners decided to pay the $55,000 late entry fee to get her into the 2500m race.
It paid off handsomely, as the $7 chance got the perfect run to outstay New Zealand filly Thunder Lady and Golconda to win.
Now Maher believes he may have a filly to return next Spring, and target races like the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
"After her Caulfield win, she just thrived," Maher said of Set Square, and why they decided to roll the dice in the VRC Oaks.
"It's her first prep, she's a really raw filly. She's got a very bright future."
Favourites Lumosty and Go Indy Go were unplaced.
