Draw better than it looks for By The Grace in 2015 Balaklava Cup

By The Grace will start Wednesday's Listed event from barrier 14 after the scratching of Alcohol, who had drawn barrier one in the $100,000 contest.

However, Noblet said the layout of the Balaklava track gave jockey Clare Lindop the chance to minimise the ground By The Grace covered in the event.

"It's not as bad as looks there because they have got the whole back straight to get in before the corner. It's a bit like Sandown,” Noblet said.

"There looks nice speed on paper any way. He'll be going back and relying on those up front for the tempo in the race for him.”

By The Grace has drifted from $7 to $9 in Sportsbet's Balaklava Cup market but the form around the son of God's Own last two runs is solid.

The five-year-old finished 1.3 lengths behind Amovatio in the Listed Winter Championship Final (1600m) at Flemington on July 11 before splitting subsequent city winners Shenzhou Steeds and Onpicalo over 1700m on August 8.

Noblet said one factor cost By The Grace a win at his last start.

"He went very well last start but the 1700m just found him out,” Noblet said. "Back to the mile here should suit.

"His last two runs have been super. The Winter Championship run was really good as well so he's going into this race in really good order.

"His work since has been good and I'm really happy with him”.
