Dodging Bullets wins Queen Mother Champion Chase

Day one of the Cheltenham Festival was dominated by talk of the bookies dodging a bullet with Annie Power's dramatic fall denying Ruby Walsh - and millions of punters - four winners.

Dodging Bullets took centre stage on day two, though, as Sam Twiston-Davies jockeyed him to victory the Queen Mother Champion Chase ahead of Somersby and Special Tiara.

Race favourite and legendary chaser Sprinter Sacre laboured and finished well down the field, leading to increased speculation that the 2013 winner could be retired.

Sprinter Sacre, now aged nine, appeared to pull up during the race and trainer Nicky Henderson revealed afterwards that he will be examined before a decision on his future is made.

Dodging Bullets, who had already won the Tingle Creek and the Clarence House Chase this season, went into the race as third favourite behind Sprinter Sacre and Sire De Grugy.

But the seven-year-old made a mockery of those odds and trainer Paul NIcholls labelled his performance "absolutely awesome".

"I should have been favourite on form - I couldn't see why the other two were in front of him in the market," Nicholls said.

"It's good for the owners and good for the team. The progress he's made has been absolutely phenomenal. He's got better and better."

Victory in the Champion Chase rounded off a fine day for Twiston-Davies, who earlier won the Coral Cup on favourite Aux Ptits Soins and finished second in the RSA Chase - won by Don Poli - on Southfield Theatre.

The Cross-Country Chase was won by Rivage D'Or, Qualando was victorious in the Fred Winter Handicap Hurdle, and favourite Moon Racer won the day's final race - the Champion Bumper.

Earlier on Wednesday, Windsor Park won the Neptune Novices' Hurdle.
