Canterbury - Greg Polson

FINAL DECISION - Loved the run of the Jason Coyle-trained Final Decision which defeated the rest of the field comfortably but could not hold off the winning run of Villiers candidate Happy Clapper at Rosehill on Saturday. Final Decision's race sectionals across the board were only bettered by the winner and is ready to peak next start third-up. He won at the same stage of his preparation last time in winning at Randwick over 1300 metres before getting the money over 1500 metres two runs later at Rosehill. Two races at Rosehill on December 19 would be ideal third-up targets for Final Decision. A benchmark 78 over 1500m where he would get plenty of weight or even drop back slightly in distance to a benchmark 93 over 1400m where he would get in close to the minimum. Whichever path connections choose Final Decision will go close to winning. Career statistics (14:3-3-0).

Moonee Valley - Cameron Happ

PENNY TO SELL - Really liked the way this lightly-raced daughter of Pentire hit the line at her first run back from a spell on Saturday and the form from the race should hold up. She was run off her feet early before winding up on the turn and she hit the line hard beaten just over a half-length on the line over 1200m. Both wins have come over a mile and her run prior to a spell was a close third to Manageress and that form stood up over the spring carnival. Bred to need every bit of a mile we can follow her right throughout the summer and if we did happen to strike a rain-affected track she grows a leg. Career statistics (9:2-1-2).

Doomben - Graeme Carey

OUR BOY NICHOLAS - Coffs Harbour Cup winner that resumed over 1350m and after settling at the rear to the home turn ran on strongly for fifth just behind the placegetters. He has a bit of quality about him and usually takes a run or two but once he gets up to a mile will be very hard to beat. Career statistics (20:7-2-1).

Morphettville - Heath Pope

BOLDACIOUS GIRL - John Hickmott-trained mare that was third-up from a break. Has run in the money in two of those three starts when little has gone her way having been forced to cover ground on each occasion. I thought her effort to be beaten just 1-1/4 lengths behind the promising Victorian visitor in Belle Melba was a terrific effort having been forced to race three wide without cover throughout. Just needs to draw a gate and she is the type of galloper capable of saluting at a nice price. Is best suited over 1000 to 1100m. Career statistics (25:4-2-6).

Ascot - Aaron Mills

FURIOUS DAME - After missing the start and never getting into it two starts ago she did the right thing and landed outside the leader on Saturday, only to face a very solid tempo. Her effort to finish 2-1/2 lengths fifth, boxing on by far the best of the on-pace runners, was impressive. Looks suited around Ascot over 1200 to 1400 metres and in a smaller field with less pressure on should find a winnable race in the coming weeks. Career statistics (14:3-1-2).
