Watson has clear idea of pairings

The United States team includes a host of players who have played together in past editions of the event and he says they will help him make his decisions this weekend.

Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley were undefeated in Medinah two years ago, while Rickie Fowler has played alongside Jim Furyk and Hunter Mahan's partnership with Zach Johnson earned USA one point in 2010.

He will also be drawn to the fact that Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson have a strong history together, winning five of their seven team matches in the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup, while halving the other two.

Although a decision has yet to be made for this week's action, Watson insists making his selections will not cause him much concern.

"Partnerships are not rocket science," he told a news conference. "There are certain players who meld very well together and it will be those combinations that we are likely to start with.

"There are pairing from the past that we are looking very hard at. There are certain players that we are targeting to play with each other.

"But that can change as the match goes on.

"I'll want to use the horses who are running strong and I'm sure that Paul [McGinley, Europe's captain] will be the same."
