Walker thrilled with homecoming

FedEx Cup leader Jimmy Walker has enjoyed having two weeks off to spend at home before the Texas Open but argued he has had to be disciplined with his time.

Walker has not played on the PGA Tour since the WGC-Cadillac Championship in Florida that ended on March 8, which has given him a fortnight in his home town of San Antonio.

Texas' second-largest city is also the home of this week's PGA Tour event and Walker has relished the extra time to practice at TPC San Antonio.

With the United States' leading golf tour heading to Houston next week before the Masters in Georgia, Walker is also savouring an extended period with his family.

"It was definitely nice to be home the last few weeks," he said on Tuesday.

"This will be three weeks at home which is decently rare if you are trying to play golf so it was nice the schedule worked out and I was able to practice a bit the last two weeks and the golf course was [in] great shape."

But being at home brings its own challenges, according to Walker, with the 36-year-old conceding he has been forced to be a bit selfish in regards to time management.

Walker is confident, however, that he is in a good position to challenge for his second title of the year when the Texas Open starts on Thursday.

The world number 13 won the Sony Open in Hawaii in January.

"It is definitely more of a juggling act if you are at home because everybody wants to see you and they come out and you get requests for a lot of things so it is a matter of trying to keep a balance and we have been doing a good job," Walker said.

"It is definitely nice to be home because it does feel more relaxed but I feel ready."
