San Antonio resident Jimmy Walker cruised to victory at the Valero Texas Open to record his fifth PGA Tour victory in 18 months.

Walker's first PGA title came in his 188th event, at the Frys.com Open in October 2013, but he has since recorded more successes than any other player on Tour.

On Sunday, the home-town hero matched the final-round 70 of nearest challenger Jordan Spieth at TPC San Antonio to maintain a four-shot cushion at the top of the leaderboard, reaching 11 under par.

Spieth, a winner at the Valspar Championship earlier this month, did his best to set up a grandstand finish by picking up shots at four successive holes from the 14th, but Walker responded with birdies of his own at 16 and 17.

Walker's victory took him to 1650 points at the top of the FedExCup standings, with Spieth (1164) jumping seven spots to second.

Billy Horschel (one-under 71) claimed outright third at four under for the tournament, with Daniel Summerhays (69) and Chesson Hadley (71) a further shot back in a tie for fourth.
