American Tringale, 26, is chasing his maiden PGA Tour victory, and is tied with former Masters champion Adam Scott at eight-under par in the FedEx Cup play-offs opener.

Despite his empty trophy cabinet on the US tour, Tringale said contending at the Ridgewood Country Club - and playing alongside world number two Scott - was something he would take in his stride.

"I don't know that I need to," said Tringale, when asked if there was something he could draw on heading to the weekend.

"I mean, I think I'm just going to keep kind of doing what I've been doing, which is not really getting that worked up about anything.

"I think having a good attitude is a big advantage out here, especially in the position I'm in.

"So if I can keep that up and the physical skills stay where they are at, I should hopefully have a chance on Sunday."

On being paired with Australian superstar Scott for Saturday's third round, he said: "Being paired with him, I think my juices would be flowing regardless.  I'm excited.

"He's been the number one player in the world just till this last month.  It's very exciting and very cool.  I'm looking forward to the challenge and to a fun day."

Tringale's second round started terribly, as he was three over through his first three holes of the day courtesy of a bogey at the 10th and a double-bogey at the 12th.

But six birdies thereafter saw him post a three-under-par 68 and take a share of the lead.

Tringale said patience was the key to his recovery, as he bounced back with birdies at 13, 15, 16 and 18 before the turn, and again at three and seven on his bogey-free return to the club house.

"With 51 more holes in the tournament [after the double-bogey], I figured I've got time to get those shots back.  It worked out.  Didn't try and force it," he said.
