Struggling Westwood feeling 'jaded'

The Englishman, 41, missed his third straight cut as a two-over 73 saw him fall a shot short of reaching the weekend at the Scottish Open.

Westwood, without a major win despite 17 top-10 finishes, said he would struggle at Hoylake as he battles poor form despite having three weeks off after the US Open.

"I just played a lot of golf at the start of the season and didn't feel like playing to be honest. I am going to have to start scheduling better. It's been a train wreck the schedule I've played," he said.

"I would say the spark is not there at the moment. If I could start hitting it that would be nice.

"When I look at my schedule for the rest of the year it's too many tournaments, especially when you are 41 years of age. You get jaded and you need to be keen every time you tee it up."

Westwood said he was hitting the ball too poorly to threaten at a major, but knows the areas he needs to work on.

"You can't contend when you're hitting it like I am. I haven't hit it very good for two or three months," he said.

"You are going to struggle on any golf course but when it's a major championship test, when there is likely to be a bit of breeze, you are going to struggle.

"You just have to keep grinding away trying to find the answer. I know what I've got to work on. It's just a case of teaching the old dog new tricks."
