Spieth, 20, had the bigger claims to be heart-broken at Augusta, after holding a two-shot lead on Sunday before eventual champion Bubba Watson stormed to a three-stroke victory. But Blixt, 29, was also hungry to return, after finishing level with Spieth on five-under overall, and within touching distance of the illustrious green jacket.

Spieth - the 2013 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year - said his failure to capitalise in his final round hurt.

"I'm very very pleased, no doubt," the youngster said of his overall performance.

"It stings right now and the only thing I'm thinking about is 'when am I getting back next year?'

"That's what's on my mind...I've worked my whole life to lead Augusta on Sunday.

"And although it's very early in my career, and I'll have more chances, it's a stinger.

"I had it in my hands, and could have gone forward with it, and just didn't quite make the putts."

Spieth said his goal for 2014 was to contend at a major, and despite ticking that box in Georgia, he was not prepared to put the cue in the rack for the big tournaments.

"Ultimately, I'm very happy with the week...happy with where my game's at going forward this year," he said.

"I've accomplished one of my goals this year, which was to get into contention in a major, and see how I can do.

"Going forward, hopefully I can do that again, there's still three more this year."

Sweden's Blixt looked at the positives of his consistent week, as he shot an opening round of 70 followed by three 71s to almost break through at Augusta on debut.

"It was a great day," Blixt said of his final round.

"I played decently, I hit my drive a lot better, I just didn't get my approach as close as I wanted and give myself enough opportunities to make birdies, but overall a decent round.

"When you shoot under par at Augusta National on Sunday, you should be pretty happy.

"Bubba Watson played better, I got beat, he deserves to win and I congratulate him for that.

"But I learnt a lot today, had a lot of new experiences, and I can't wait to come back."
