Scott - 12th in the FedEx Cup rankings - has been left to rue one poor round at the past three FedEx Cup play-off events, with the Australian unable to stay in the 60s across all four days.
The world number two was in contention at The Barclays before he fired a third-round 75, which was followed by a 71 on the opening day of the Deutsche Bank Championship.
Scott finished in a tie for 15th and 16th respectively at those events.
That pattern continued at the BMW Championship last week, starting the tournament with a 73 as he earned a share of eighth position.
With an inability to perform consistently lingering on his mind, Scott is set to come out of the blocks aggressively at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, starting on Thursday.
"We are playing golf at the highest level and the bad round has shot me out of the tournaments," Scott said.
"I have failed to keep momentum and I am off to slower starts and fighting to come back.
"While there is so much that goes into a tournament and to have it all line up is tough, it is also no excuse.
"That's why I feel I really need to come out hard and find four rounds this week, my last four of the (US tour) season. I don't get any more so I have to perform this week."
Scott is still a chance to take out the FedEx Cup but the 34-year-old's destiny is out of his own hands, with Chris Kirk, Billy Horschel, Bubba Watson and Rory McIlroy in the box seat.
However, Scott said he will just be happy to win the Tour Championship and add to his solitary win this season - the Crowne Plaza Invitational.
"I'd just like to win another tournament this season. I have certainly played good enough but not gotten what I wanted out of my game," he said.
"I certainly had high hopes of continuing on from a pretty big year last year and in some ways you kind of balance and manage those expectations but they are still there and I still want to be lifting trophies."
