Scott looking to end on a high

After winning The Barclays by a stroke and claiming his maiden major trophy - the Masters - last year, Scott has failed to live up to his personal goals in 2014.

Scott took out the Crowne Plaza Invitational in May - his only victory on the PGA Tour this season - but the world number two was unable to finish inside the top three at the four majors.

But speaking ahead of The Barclays, which tees off at the Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey on Thursday, Scott feels his play has deserved more and wants to end the season on a high, starting with the FedEx Cup opener.

"I think it would feel like I have achieved something this year [winning the Barclays]," Scott told reporters.

"Obviously to go through and not win a major when my mind was set on that was disappointing but there is always something to play for whether it is this week or over the next month.

"To walk away at least with another PGA Tour win and hopefully two and a FedEx Cup would validate how well I feel like I am playing and I maybe haven't got the results I felt I could have."

His performances at majors this year result resulted in a share of 14th at the Masters, ninth at the US Open, fifth at The Open Championship and 15th at the US PGA Championship.

"Maybe slightly [disappointed with major form] but I guess it happens at some tournaments and the majors are a bit like that," he said.

"I am sure those guys haven't felt less special not going back to the same course they won at and it's the same for me here. The Barclays is a really important event as far as the PGA Tour season goes and it is important in the FedEx Cup.

"It was a big win last year for me and set me up for a big run at the play-offs and I am looking for exactly the same here again.

"It is a great week, Ridgewood is lovely and in great shape and I think I am in for a good tournament."
