Ryder Cup captain Love undergoes surgery

Davis Love III - Cropped

US Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III will be out for two months after undergoing foot surgery on Wednesday.

Love underwent surgery in Georgia on his right foot to correct two dislocated toes and digital contracture.

His surgeon, Dr David Murphy, said this is a common issue for golfers, or anyone who spends a lot of time on their feet.

"It was actually a series of traumatic events, [walking] 20 miles every week on Tour, that caused this," Murphy told Golf Channel.

Love, 50, is a 20-time PGA Tour winner, but is not qualified for The Masters in April, the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship or The Players Championship.

Love was named the United States' Ryder Cup captain in February, ahead of the 2016 event at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota.

He will also serve as a captain's assistant for the 2015 Presidents Cup, alongside skipper Jay Haas.

Love most recently finished tied for 44th at the Texas Open in March.
