The Englishman won the PGA Tour event for the second time - it was previously known as the AT&T National - after edging American Shawn Stefani in a play-off.

Rose sunk eight and 15-foot putts on his final two regulation holes at the Congressional Country Club to finish level with Stefani at four-under overall before winning on the first additional hole.

The victory was his his first since lifting the 2013 US Open and was enough to edge him past Jordan Spieth and Sergio Garcia in the rankings.

Stefani's showing saw him leap from 246th to 126th in the world.

The other big winner last week was Fabrizio Zanotti, who became the first Paraguayan to triumph on the European Tour with victory at the BMW International.

Zanotti held his nerve in a four-way play-off that also included Henrik Stenson, Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Gregory Havret, earning 42 ranking points for the result.

He surges 193 places into 112th.

Adam Scott, Stenson and Bubba Watson remain in the top three positions, with no movement occurring among the world's leading seven players.
