World No. 1 Rory McIlroy caused a stir at the WGC-Cadillac Championship on Friday, hurling one of his clubs into a lake in frustration.

After shooting a one-over par 73 on the opening day at Doral, the Northern Irishman made a great start to his second round by birdieing the first two holes.

However, bogeys at three and four followed and, although McIlroy picked up a shot on the seventh, he was unable to keep his emotions in check when finding the water at the eighth.

The 25-year-old threw the iron he had used into the lake his ball found, leaving him a club short for the remainder of his round.

McIlroy went on to make a bogey six and can surely expect to face questions over his act of temper when he reaches the clubhouse.
