Rickie Fowler, Ian Poulter voted most overrated by peers

Rickie Fowler - Cropped

Rickie Fowler and Ian Poulter may have a bone to pick with their fellow PGA Tour members.

In a recent anonymous poll conducted by Sports Illustrated, the two were voted the most overrated golfers on tour, with each receiving 24 percent of the vote. Lists like this come with a grain of salt, because in order to be overrated you have to be rated pretty high to begin with. Fowler, 26, is currently ranked 13th in the Official World Rankings, and Poulter is 30th.

A lot of the criticism of Fowler stems from him only owning one win on tour, but he did finish in the top five of all four majors last year. He became only the third player in history to accomplish that feat, joining Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. There are those who will say top-fives aren't wins, but in a game of inches, a top five in the four most illustrious tournaments is impressive.

Poulter, on the other hand, has been inconsistent throughout his career, but considering his success across the pond and in the Ryder Cup, its's still hard to say he's overrated. The 39-year-old has won the Match Play Championship, owns a top-three finish in three out of four majors and has 14 wins between the PGA and European Tours.

Bubba Watson and Hunter Mahan received the third- and fourth-most votes in the poll with 12 and eight percent, respectively. Watson has won two majors (both at Augusta), and has nine wins worldwide. Even though he was a bit of a late bloomer, it's hard to say the No. 4-ranked golfer is overrated.
