Quiros holds slender lead

Spaniard Alvaro Quiros will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Hong Kong Open, while Australian Marcus Fraser remains in the hunt.

Quiros fired a solid three-under 67 on Saturday to grab the outright lead at 10-under-par, a stroke clear of Sweden's Peter Hanson, who surged into contention with a five-under 65 to move to second place.

South Korea's Y.E Yang (65) and Thailand's Pariya Junhasavasdikul (67) are in a share of third spot at eight-under.

US Open champion Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, holds onto outright fifth a further stroke back after an even-par round to lie three shots behind Quiros.

The world number two needs at least a top-two finish in Hong Kong to keep his hopes of snatching the Race to Dubai title from Luke Donald alive heading into the season-ending Dubai World Championship next week.

But McIlroy was off the pace from the outset, dropping shots at the fourth and fifth holes and not recording his first birdie until the 13th.

Quiros, who is looking for his sixth win on the European Tour, was steady rather than spectacular on Saturday in firing three birdies in his bogey-free round.

After a bogey on the second, Ryder Cup player Hanson came home with a rush with four birdies on the back nine, while 2009 US PGA champion Yang also shot a 65 to put himself in the hunt at Hong Kong Golf Club.

Five players - Fraser (69), Frenchman Gregory Havret (66), Englishman David Horsey (69), Dane Soren Kjeldsen (69) and New Zealand's Danny Lee (70) - are tied for sixth place at five-under.
