Australian Cameron Percy has fallen just short of a memorable victory at the Panama Claro Championship on the Nationwide Tour, finishing just one shot behind winner Edward Loar.

Percy started the final round eight shots behind overnight leader Loar but surged back into contention with a three-under round of 67 as the American self-destructed with a 74.

Loar had three bogeys and a triple-bogey but a birdie at 16 saw him regain the lead from Percy and three other players to hold on for his maiden victory on the Nationwide Tour.

A trio of Americans Ryan Armour (68), Luke List (68) and Brian Smock (69) finished alongside Percy in a tie for second.

"I really haven't played that good out here," said PGA Tour rookie Loar.

"Hopefully this will give me some gratification that I actually belong out here."

Peter Lonard (69) was the next best of the Australians finishing in a tie for seventh, four shots behind the winner.

Michael Sim (69) was well back in a tie for 43rd at six-over, alongside fellow Aussies Aron Price (74) and Steven Bowditch (74).
