The two-time Open champion had a lucky escape whilst working on some trees in the garden of his property on Jupiter Island in Florida.
When a large branch unexpectedly fell, Norman attempted to catch it and dropped the chainsaw in the process. The weight of the branch brought the Australian's arm down onto the equipment, causing minor damage.
"Norman elected to undergo surgery while in the hospital to repair some minor nerve damage," a statement on his official website read.
"According to the specialists who tended to Norman, he will not sustain any long-term, permanent damage to his left arm.
"Following the surgery, Norman returned home to rest and recover. Both Norman and the doctors expect him to have a full, speedy recovery and to be able to return back to playing golf and attacking life shortly."
The man himself, meanwhile, remained upbeat despite his injury.
"Thank you to everyone for their concern and well wishes," he said.
"I look forward to getting back out there to attack that tree like I planned on doing yesterday. No tree is going to keep me down."
