After a sluggish start at the second FedEX Cup play-off event, McIlroy is now poised to take out his fourth event in five outings.
Northern Irishman McIlroy produced a flawless third round on Sunday, carding a seven-under-par 64 to rocket up the leaderboard and within two shots of American leader Russell Henley at TPC Boston.
McIlroy believes the experience of being in the mix with 18 holes remaining at previous tournaments has him primed to add to his wins at The Open Championship, WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and US PGA Championship.
"I've been in this position quite a lot recently. So I know how it's going to feel tomorrow," McIlroy told reporters.
"I know what's going to happen out there. And, yeah, I've played well.
"I've made it through this year and hopefully tomorrow will be no different."
McIlroy, who holed seven birdies throughout day three, added: "I played well. I hit a lot of iron shots close. I got myself in position to do that, more so than the first couple of days.
"I didn't hole really anything the first couple of days. Whenever you're hitting iron shots as close as I was on the back nine you don't really need to putt well.
"A really a solid day of golf and obviously puts me in a good position."
