McIlroy in rough return to PGA Tour

After much pomp and fanfare, Rory McIlroy failed to live up to the billing on his return, losing his ball off his opening tee shot at the Honda Classic.

The world number one has returned to the PGA Tour in Florida, having won the European Tour's Dubai Desert Classic earlier this month.

A #McIlroysBack hashtag was in place on Twitter to celebrate the Ulsterman's outing, though it soon became a source of fun as his first shot skewed into deep rough to the right of the fairway.

Having gone back to the tee, McIlory found the fairway at the second time of asking before his approach ended up in the bunker.

A neat up and down from the sand trap limited the damage for McIlroy, but a double-bogey six left him playing catch-up from the off.

McIlroy struggled to get back on track, two birdies in his last two holes only good enough to leave him on three over for the day.
