The Frenchman will represent Europe in the showpiece competition for the first time after his performances on the European Tour this year earned him one of the automatic places on McGinley's team.

Europe's captain admitted Dubuisson was not someone he had come into much contact with until earlier this year, but the 24-year-old has made a good impression on the Irishman.

"I've played with him [Dubuisson] a couple of times, but I can't say I knew him. I have got to know him over the last six months." McGinley said.

"He's a great guy. He's got flair, he's got charisma, he's got Hollywood looks. There's something special about him and I like the fact he's different."

Tuesday saw the opening practice round at Gleneagles, with Dubuisson partnering Henrik Stenson and Graeme McDowell.

McGinley kept a close eye on all four groups during the day as he plots to mastermind a third successive Ryder Cup triumph for a third successive time.

"It's a challenge [getting to know the players]," said McGinley. "Not every player is Ian Poulter and he's a challenge for a different reason.

"My aim is to get to know each player, what makes them tick, what their background is, their family, where they live, how they live their life - and all of that helps me make good decisions.
