Masters places up for grabs at Trophee Hassan II

Alexander Levy leads the Trophee Hassan II field this week as the final places at the Masters go up for grabs.

With the first major of the year beginning on April 9, the Trophee Hassan II provides a final chance for players to get themselves into the world's top 50 and earn a spot at Augusta.

Levy – the world number 54 – has not won on tour this year but his consistent displays have put him in contention for the Masters, the Frenchman needing to finish second in Morocco to secure his invite.

Another in-form player in the field is Andy Sullivan. The Englishman has already won twice this year and if he can make it a hat-trick at the Golf du Palais Royal, he will head to the Masters.

Sullivan – who will play alongside Levy and Tommy Fleetwood – enjoyed himself in Morocco last year as he claimed second place, finishing five shots adrift of eventual winner Alejandro Canizares, who also returns this year.

"Since my victory last year, I feel more confident in myself," Canizares told Le Figaro. "I now turn up to all tournaments with the intention of winning.

"And of course, the Agadir course is so exceptional, and different to any other course in the world."

Canizares, who cannot qualify for the Masters, got off to a flyer at this tournament last year - shooting an opening round of 10-under par.

Of all the previous winners of the event since it arrived on the European Tour, only Marcel Siem is able to qualify for the Masters.

The German lifted the Trophee Hassan II title in 2013, but fell agonisingly short of a place at the Masters by only rising to number 51 in the world.

A repeat performance two years on would be enough for a spot at Augusta, though, along with a cheque for €250,000 and one of the most unusual trophies on tour - a jewel-encrusted gold dagger.
