Lyle, Green secure cards

Brendon Todd has taken Medallist honours as 27 players earned their PGA Tour cards for 2012 at the final stage of Q-School in California on Monday, with Australians Jarrod Lyle and Nathan Green among them.

But Lyle and Green's compatriots Matt Jones and Steven Bowditch will be bitterly disappointed to have missed out, Jones collapsing with a final-round 75 to finish three shots short of the cut-off at six under while Bowditch closed with a 71 to also close at that score.

With cards awarded to the top 25 players plus ties, Green actually finished in a tie for 27th with John Huh and Colt Knost at minus eight but all three got through because Nationwide Tour graduates Roberto Castro and Mark Anderson finished within the top 25 and already had cards for next year.

Four shots from the lead heading into the sixth and final round, Todd signed for his second successive 68 and third of the tournament to finish at 17 under.

And while it had looked like he would share top billing with Stephen Gangluff, that didn't eventuate after Gangluff bogeyed his 108th hole of the week and had to be content with a 70 and outright second.

Bobby Gates matched Green's 66 to share round of the day honours and finish equal third with Seung-yul Noh (67) at 15 under, while Lyle's 69 gave him a share of fifth for the second year in succession, this time with Tommy Biershenk (68) and Vaughn Taylor (69).

Of the other Australians, 2000 Q-School Medallist Steve Allan (69) and Bronson La'Cassie (73) shared 82nd at one under, Craig Hocknull (75) was equal 103rd at two over and James Nitties (76) tied for 115th at plus five.

The four major winners in the 160-man field all missed out, with Lee Janzen tying for 38th at -6 after finishing with rounds of 71, 71 and 70 on the final three days while David Duval (72 for -2), Shaun Micheel (69 for even par) and Rich Beem (73 for +6) were all further back.

Lyle, who is a two-time winner on the Nationwide Tour, gave himself an early wedding present just days before he gets married to fiancee Briony Harper on Saturday in his hometown of Shepparton, having closed with a fourth sub-70 round of the week.
