Kuchar 'sharp' ahead of 2015 season

The 2015 campaign gets underway on Thursday, when the Frys.com Open tees off in Napa, California.

Kuchar finished 13th in the Tour Championship, which was the final tournament of the cashed-up FedEx Cup in September before competing for the losing United States team in the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

Rather than feeling fatigued heading into the new season, Kuchar said he could have an edge on his rivals at the $6million event.

"I still feel like I'm still somewhat sharp as far as my game goes," Kuchar said.

"I think the guys that maybe are here and didn't play as many FedEx events, could be five weeks off and kind of coming off more of an off-season, may not be quite as sharp, maybe fresh and rested, but not as sharp.

"I feel like I have some competitive sharpness still, so excited to be here."

Kuchar, the world number nine, said he was all too aware he was a sitting duck among golf's elite, as he opens a new season.

"Playing golf for a living is an amazing way to make a living, but a really difficult way to make a living," Kuchar said.

"You're trying to be the best of the best. Every year you've got a whole new crop of young kids that are ready to take your place.

"I realise that every year I've got a thousand people that would love to replace me. It's certainly not easy, it's very competitive but I think that's what guys out here love about it.

"It's the challenge that you're out here playing the very best qualifier the game has to offer.

"It's exciting every year, you kind of can't wait to see who can make it, who doesn't make it, and to challenge yourself against the best of the newcomers."
