Kuchar hopeful of dream win

Kuchar's best performance at The Open came in 2012 at Royal Lytham & St Annes, when he finished in a tie for ninth behind winner Ernie Els, who pounced on Adam Scott's late collapse.

The 36-year-old American was further back last year, placing 15th as compatriot Phil Mickelson emerged triumphant at Muirfield.

But Kuchar - a seven-time PGA Tour winner - believes his style of play lends itself this year's venue - Hoylake in Liverpool.

"To win the British Open would just be a dream come true," said Kuchar, who took out the RBC Heritage in April.

"I think for all of us as kids that played the game, envisage holding the claret jug and envisage winning British Opens.

"It certainly would be the childhood dream coming true for me.

"I love coming over. My record's not great here but it's been turning in the right direction, these past two years have been much improved. I've always enjoyed the game.

"I think my game is pretty well suited to a British Open. I'm not sure if I'm figuring out how to adjust better or how to play better, or my game's just improved - I've certainly had some better results these past two years."

Kuchar also said his confidence has been bolstered further after practising with previous winners in the build-up.

"I've had four practice rounds with four great Open champions to play with," he said.

"I played with Tiger [Woods] on Sunday. I played with Nick Faldo on Monday. Tom Watson Tuesday, and David Duval today.

"So I'm hoping I get some unique perspective and some of that mystical Open Championship to rub off on me."
