Spieth, Johnson keep USA ahead

Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson rallied for United States to give them a 7 1/2 to 6 1/2 lead over the Internationals at the Presidents Cup on Saturday.

The marquee American duo had been well beaten on Friday, but they rallied past Jason Day and Charl Schwartzel 1-up in the foursomes to see USA lead in South Korea.

Of the four matches, two were halved – with Louis Oosthuizen and Branden Grace continuing their good showing with the day's first win to put the Internationals on level terms.

But Johnson and Spieth won the final two holes in their match as USA took a one-point lead into the four-ball later in the day, which had been delayed due to weather.

The combination of Oosthuizen and Grace improved to a 3-0 win-loss this weekend with a 3 and 2 win over Patrick Reed and Rickie Fowler.

The Internationals had led 2-up before the Americans were all square through 10 holes, only for a birdie at the 11th to put them back in control.

USA looked set to regain their lead through Bubba Watson and J.B. Holmes, but the former missed a six-foot birdie putt at the 18th as they halved their match against Adam Scott and Marc Leishman.

Watson had broken his driver just before the match and had a new one delivered early on.

Bill Haas was the next to squander a chance as he and Matt Kuchar halved their match with Bae Sang-moon and Hideki Matsuyama.

The Internationals birdied the 18th and Haas' 19-foot putt missed as USA gave up their 1-up lead on the last hole.

But USA finally went ahead once more in the final foursomes.

Day had missed a putt that would have kept the Internationals 1-up through 17 and his drive into a fairway bunker on the next left him and Schwartzel with work to do.

Spieth and Johnson pounced to win the 18th and the match via a seven-foot putt by the world number one.
