Professional golfer John Daly proposed to his caddie and long-time girlfriend Anna Cladakis on Thursday, his fifth attempt at a successful marriage.
Cladakis, 46, met Daly in 2008 through her public relations work for the Hooters restaurant chain; a major sponsor for Daly. After dating for seven years, Daly asked Cladakis, now a country singer, to be his caddie.
"I'll just take out a few Diet Cokes and packs of cigarettes," Cladakis said while preparing to be Daly's caddie in June's Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn. "I think I got this."
"Long John" Daly, 48, carried the momentum from the announcement with him onto the course in Turkey, where he carded a 66 in the opening round of the Beko Classic, followed by an impressive 9-under par 63 in the second round. Daly was 15-under and led the PGA of Europe tournament by six strokes.
Daly hasn't won a PGA Tour victory since 2004, but remains one of the polarizing professional golfers because of his anti-country club approach, gaudy apparel and rowdy lifestyle.
