Stenson: 'Someone with the first letter of a J will win' FedEx Cup

JasonDay - Cropped

The FedEx Cup comes to a thrilling finale this week and Australian Jason Day is the favorite to take the crown as the PGA Tour season comes to an end at the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

Day, who has won four of his past six events en route to the number one spot in the rankings, is the favorite to take out the Championship, which begins on Thursday at East Lake Golf Club.

The 27-year-old could be set to win more than $10 million in just one week if he wins the event and the FedEx Cup.

Day stands alongside Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh as the only three players in the past 20 years to win five or more PGA Tour events in a single year.

However, the competition will be fierce as Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Henrik Stenson and Bubba Watson are all in position to win the championship. Everyone in the top five is guaranteed the big prize if they win the Tour Championship after the points reset following the BMW Championship. The restructuring of points has largely been viewed as controversial, but it makes sense for the tour to want more intrigue in its final event.

Added to the accolades on offer is the Player of the Year Award, which is set to go down to the wire between Day and Spieth.

"Of course it's between Jason and Jordan and someone with the first letter of a 'J' will win it," 2013 FedExCup winner Stenson said. "I would still wait until this week is over before I would put my final vote on that. I think it comes down to what happens this week."
