Day, Compton lead at rainy Zurich Classic

JasonDay - Cropped

Jason Day and Erik Compton are atop the leaderboard at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans after another weather-affected day.

Players were unable to complete their second rounds on Friday and rain again had an impact on Saturday.

But Day and Compton sit at 13 under, with both early in their third rounds at TPC Louisiana.

Compton was four under through six holes in an impressive start to his round, while Australian Day had played three holes and was one under.

The top of the leaderboard at the PGA Tour event is congested.

Englishman Justin Rose, Canadian David Hearn and Americans Blayne Barber and Jerry Kelly are all at 12 under.

In a tie for seventh a further shot back are Justin Thomas, Chris Stroud, Brendon de Jonge and Hudson Swafford.

None of the players who made the cut have completed their third rounds.

Play was suspended early in the afternoon due to the weather and delayed for almost five hours, before darkness led to the end of the day being called.

Compton had put together rounds of 66 and 69, and he made a blistering to his third round with four birdies on his first five holes.

Day carded a second-round seven-under 65 to surge into contention and he had birdied the second before the round was suspended.

Barber was five under through 11 holes as he put himself in a good position to challenge.

Rain is forecast for Sunday and Monday in New Orleans, with the potential for the tournament to be reduced.

Complicating matters is the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship starting on Wednesday.
