Hend triumphs in Singapore

Australian Scott Hend won a shortened Singapore Classic by a single shot ahead of a four-way tie for second place on Sunday.

Hend posted a six-under-par 64 for the lowest round of the day at the Orchid Country Club.

It was enough to reach 11-under overall and claim victory in the Asian Tour event, which was reduced to 54 holes due to bad weather.

He won ahead of Sri Lankan Mithun Perera, Taiwan's Lu Wei-chih, Javi Colomo of Spain and American David Lipsky.

All four players finished up level at 10 under, but it was Perera who had the best chance of forcing a playoff.

He was just one shot worse off than Hend for his third round, carding a bogey-free five-under 65.

But none of the chasing pack proved capable of halting Hend's march to the seventh victory of his professional career, and second on the Asian Tour.

The Queensland native completed his round ahead of three of his immediate rivals, and endured a nervous wait to see if 64 was good enough for victory.

"It's sort of like you're going out and have to wait for your wife to do her hair or something," Hend said.

"You're just sitting around and pacing around and that was what I was feeling then."

"I just wanted it to be over and know whether I've won or not. Luckily for me, I won."

Compatriot Adam Groom closed with a 65 to finish in a tie for ninth at eight-under, alongside another Australian Kieran Pratt.
