American James Hahn ended his PGA Tour drought by prevailing in a three-man play-off at the Northern Trust Open on Sunday.

Hahn sealed his first PGA title and earned a ticket to The Masters with a birdie on the third extra hole at the Riviera Country Club.

The 33-year-old Korean-born golfer had previously gone 64 events without a win on Tour.

A play-off was required after Hahn saved par on the 18th for a final-round 69 that saw him move level with fellow American Dustin Johnson (69) and Englishman Paul Casey (68) at six under at the end of 72 holes in Pacific Palisades, California.

Casey was the first man eliminated on the second extra hole - the 10th - after Hahn and Johnson both sunk birdie putts.

The tournament was clinched by Hahn on the third play-off hole at the 14th as Johnson missed his effort for birdie.

Spaniard Sergio Garcia faltered dramatically as he plummeted down the leaderboard and out of play-off contention.

Garcia only needed a pair of pars from his final two holes to win the tournament, instead the eight-time PGA Tour winner holed consecutive bogeys to finish a stroke behind the play-off trio.

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama (67) and American duo Keegan Bradley (68) and Jordan Spieth (70) also finished five under in Los Angeles.

Overnight leader Retief Goosen carded a four-over-par 75 as he settled for eighth position at four under alongside American Kyle Reifers (67), Canadian Graham DeLaet (73) and South Korean Bae Sang-Moon (72).

Meanwhile, defending champion Bubba Watson (73) finished four shots off the pace in a share for 14th.
