Garcia said he discussed with his fellow Spaniard the prospects of Ferrero caddying with him at the Amata Spring Country Club course in Bangkok, and the 2003 French Open winner obliged to create a cross-code combination.

The golfer, who is ironically major-less in his career, won the tournament in 2013 with girlfriend Katherina Boehm, but Garcia decided a change of tune was in order after his four-stroke victory, bringing in the former world number one tennis player.

Garcia said in an Asian Tour release: "I've played golf with him [Juan Carlos Ferrero] many times but he never caddied for me before.

"We just talked about it and he mentioned about it and we decided to do it. He is excited about it.

"Katharina is fine. She is happy to step aside and support from the sidelines.

"It always helps to have a friend on your bag. It is good fun to be able to enjoy golf and have a good time with a good close friend."

Garcia, ranked sixth, will contend with the likes of Bubba Watson, Martin Kaymer, Ernie Els, Lee Westwood and Victor Dubuisson at the $1million event.
