Luke Donald believes he has found the perfect formula to become the first Englishman to win one of golf's majors in 16 years.
The world number one heads into this week's British Open knowing that the key is finding the balance between his desire to win and keeping his nerves in check.
"The difficult part about majors is balancing trying so hard to win one with treating it like any other event because it isn't," Donald said.
"There's a different atmosphere, different pressures, more attention, but you've got to try to compartmentalise that and when you get to the first tee on Thursday relax and be ready to go."
The 34-year-old says he has identified where he has gone wrong in his 36 previous appearances at golf's main events.
"We'll see come Thursday but the idea is to almost treat it like a normal event and not put it on that pedestal that I probably have in the past few years," Donald said.
Despite Royal Lytham and St Annes having received plenty of criticism for its knee-high rough, Donald seems relaxed just days out from the British Open.
After three weeks off, Donald just wants to play.
"If the weather is not horrendous (in the lead-up to the British Open) I'll even consider playing 18 (holes) each day," he said.
"Just to really get in that playing mode and just finishing out, not hitting too many balls, just playing. I think that's a good preparation for me."
