Dening Day was unable to make the trip to Kohler, Wisconsin to watch her son, Jason, win the US PGA Championship in person, so she settled for watching it on a computer at work in Australia.

"I got the update online and it takes a little while to get updated so I was very anxious," she told ABC Radio.

"My workmates were so excited and they were just as excited as me and they know that Jason has been waiting a major as well."

Day held off Jordan Spieth to win his first major title and become the fifth Australian to win the US PGA Championship after shooting a final round 67 to seal the win by three shots.

It was the first time a golfer has ever finished 20-under at a major championship.

"I did see all the Twitter [tweets] coming through; it's so wonderful to see," Day's mother added.

"He has worked so hard at every tournament, he's always tried his best and to win this one and the last major for the year is tremendous.

"Since I've been at work I haven't had a chance to celebrate yet."
