Day, Tringale win Franklin Templeton Shootout

Jason Day

Australian Day and American Tringale held a three-stroke lead before teeing off and the duo overcame a slow start to top the leaderboard after producing a seven-under-par 65 in the better-ball final round at the Tiburon Golf Course in Naples.

The pair pocketed $385,000 each after finishing 32 under for the tournament, one shot better than defending champions Harris English and Matt Kuchar.

Day and Tringale only managed one birdie through the first eight holes but they eventually found their rhythm, carding six birdies from nine on the home stretch.

English and Kuchar - who collected $242,500 apiece - played in the penultimate group and mounted a late charge, though the latter narrowly missed an eagle chip on the final hole as Day and Tringale emerged triumphant.

Keegan Bradley and Camilo Villegas were tied for third alongside Billy Horschel and Ian Poulter at 29 under.

The two teams both shot 11-under 61s in the third and final round.

Graeme McDowell and team-mate Gary Woodland - who began the day closest to Day and Tringale - and Jerry Kelly and Steve Stricker were a shot further back.

Charles Howell III and Scott Verplank were seventh at 26 under with Justin Leonard and Rory Sabbatini.
