Jason Day returns to world No.1

Following a week that saw neither man in competitive action, Jason Day has replaced Jordan Spieth as golf's world number one.

The Australian's return to the summit comes as a result of the rankings being computed over a two-year rolling basis, meaning players can lose points as well as gain them.

Day claimed the number-one ranking for the first time last month when he followed up notable victories at the US PGA Championship - his first major triumph - and The Barclays by winning the BMW Championship.

However, Spieth duly reclaimed top spot the following week, the American's success at the Tour Championship also securing FedEx Cup glory and a $10million bonus.

Matt Kuchar is the only other person in the top 20 to have moved up the rankings, rising from 16th to 13th as a result of his victory at the Fiji International.

Andy Sullivan, the runaway winner of the European Tour's Portugal Masters on Sunday, is now up to a career-high 47th, having ended 2014 as the world number 150.
