Day and Rose lead at Zurich Classic

Jason Day sits alongside Justin Rose atop the leaderboard on 16 under par after three rounds of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Australian Day was one of several players in the field affected by torrential rain at TPC Louisiana, which brought a premature end to Saturday's action after the poor weather conditions had also affected Friday's second round.

Day was leading alongside Erik Compton when the decision was taken to bring a halt to the third round, and he continued his push with a fine performance on Sunday.

The 27-year-old made a charge with a streak of three birdies between the fifth and seventh holes, before holing a 34-foot putt at 14 to pick up another shot.

A bogey at 15 proved a blot on his card and meant that he did have the overall lead when the third round was complete, as Englishman Rose continued his fine tournament by signing for a bogey-free seven-under 65.

Rose was at 12 under when his round resumed and he came home in 32 to pick up a further four birdies.

Compton struggled to make the most of his solid start on Saturday, as two bogeys and two birdies on the back nine saw him remain on 13 under.

Several players took to the course to start their fourth rounds before the third round had been completed, with event organisers looking to finish the tournament on time.
