Couples: I can win

Fred Couples is convinced he can win the Masters again, 20 years after his one and only triumph.

Couples shares the lead with fellow American Jason Dufner, who was only five when the veteran took home his green jacket in 1992.

"Can I win?" Couples said, repeating the question that so many are asking now.

"Yeah, I believe I can, yes."

"Standing out there, I said, 'What the hell,' a lot. What do I have to lose here'?" Couples said after carding a five-under 67.

Rory McIlroy fired a three-under-par round, leaving him one off the lead.

"I wouldn't say I'm in a position to win yet," he said.

"I'm not leading, so that's a bit different to last year. I'm in the pack. But it's not a bad place to be."

"I know I'm playing well," said McIlroy, who overcame last year's final-round collapse at the Masters to win the U.S. Open.

"The recent results show that. I just wanted to come here and play, put myself in position to win another tournament, another major."

Lee Westwood three-putted on the 18th green for a double bogey to be four-under for the tournament.

"The double at the last (hole) was a disappointing way to finish," Westwood said.

"But if you get out of position slightly on this course, it can punish you."

"I'm in a good position going into the weekend and I-m not going to be too far off the lead. That's a position you want to be in."

Sergio Garcia is also one shot off the lead.

"I don't know if I'm ready to win," Garcia said.

"I'll see. We-ll see. I wish I could tell you I'm ready to win, but I really don-t know. So I'm just going to give it my best try, and you know, hopefully that will be good."

South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen recovered after being three over after five holes to shoot 33 on the back nine.

"I can't explain it," Oosthuizen said.

"I thought it would be fine this morning, but it got cold out there, then it looked like it was going to stay like that the whole day."

"I just hung in there and made a few birdies coming in — going into the weekend, it's a great opportunity and a great spot to be in."
