World number four Bubba Watson is hoping to notch back-to-back wins in China when the inaugural Shenzhen International tees off in Shenzhen on Thursday.

The $2.5million Shenzhen International is a new addition to the European Tour calendar and is the first of four tournaments to be staged in China this year.

Watson won the last tournament to be held in China - November's WGC-HSBC Champions - edging South African Tim Clarke in a play-off.

A week after finishing 18 shots behind Masters champion and fellow American Jordan Spieth at Augusta, Watson returns to China for the first time since claiming silverware in Shanghai five months ago, this time at the Genzon Golf Club.

"This is a great opportunity for me to come back to China and play in a new event, which will make a big contribution to the development of golf in southern China," said Watson - a dual Masters winner.

"I'm looking forward to coming to Shenzhen and playing my part in making some history."

Volvo China Open winner Alexander Levy of France is also in the field.

Levy won the Volvo China Open last year, which follows the Shenzhen International next week, by four strokes ahead of Englishman Tommy Fleetwood at the same venue as this week's tournament - the Genzon Golf Club.

Fellow Frenchman Gregory Bourdy also makes the trip to Shenzhen, as well as six-time European Tour champion Peter Hanson of Sweden, Spaniard and 2014 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship winner Pablo Larrazabal and Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts.

Meanwhile, Australian Scott Barr and American Benjamin Lein will join Chinese amateurs Yichen Wang and Wei Kang, and professionals Hoayuan Lv and Jia Zhang as qualifiers for the event.
