The American carded a final round of 69 on Sunday at Augusta, enough to give him a three-shot win.

Watson's victory was his second in three years on the famous course, with compatriot Jordan Spieth and Sweden's Jonas Blixt tied for second.

He surged above a host of players in the rankings with his win, while Speith's steady progression continued.

The 20-year-old is now inside the top 10, moving from 13th to ninth, and Blixt has risen 23 places to 33rd.

Phil Mickelson dropped three spots to eighth after missing the cut at golf's first major of the year.

Tiger Woods clings on to top spot despite not being involved at the Masters, while positions two and three also remain unchanged - Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson occupying those.

Away from the Masters, Carlos Ortiz and Jbe' Kruger both enjoyed a rankings boost after victories in the El Bosque Mexico Championship and Zimbabwe Open respectively.
