Australians Jarrod Lyle and Matt Jones are both closing in on securing their PGA Tour cards after the penultimate round of the qualifying event in La Quinta, California.

The pair carded four-under-par rounds of 68 to remain entrenched inside the top 25 qualifying mark ahead of the sixth and final round on Monday.

Lyle is in a tie for fifth place at minus 11, while Jones is a further two strokes back in a tie for 13th.

Steven Bowditch is also in the mix after his 69 took him to five under and a tie for 34th.

Nathan Green and Bronson La'Cassie will both need minor miracles if they are to qualify as they are both in a tie for 63rd at two under.

Craig Hocknull (T79), James Nitties (T98) and Steve Allan (T107) are all out of contention.

Marco Dawson leads the field at 17 under following a four-under-par round of 68 on Sunday.

Dawson's fellow American Stephen Gangluff is outright second at 14 under after he shot a five-under 67.

Harris English and Brendon Todd - both of the US - are a shot further back, tied for third at 13 under.

The top 25 players in the field gain access to the 2012 PGA Tour, with the next 50 players entering the second-tier Nationwide Tour.

South Korean Sang-Moon Bae is one of five players tied for 29th - just one shot outside the top 25 - with one round remaining to force their way up the leaderboard.
