South African Thomas Aiken shot a two-under-par 70 on Sunday to win the Spanish Open by two shots from Denmark's Anders Hansen.

Aiken, who led from Friday's second round, finished 10-under-par overall at the Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona.

Hansen was unable to better Aiken's final round of 70, ending the tournament outright second at eight under.

Australia's Daniel Gaunt had a horror final round, shooting a 78 to finish at seven over the card and in 55th place.

Spain's Pablo Larrazabal and Scott Jamieson of Scotland both carded one-under 71s to finish in a share of third at seven under.

A further six players were tied for fifth place; Welshman Phillip Price, Scotsman Paul Lawrie, Englishmen Simon Dyson and David Horsey, together with Frenchmen Gregory Havret and Romain Wattel, all ended the competition six-under overall.

Aiken, 27, dedicated his first European Tour victory to five-time major champion Seve Ballesteros.

The Spanish sporting great died on Saturday due to complications caused by his battle against a brain tumour.

"It's been a sad week with Seve passing away," Aiken said.

"I definitely want to dedicate this win to him with it being his home Open and what he gave to his home fans and to golf."

Aiken took home more than $400,000 in prize money in what was his first competitive outing following a seven-week layoff.

"I don't think it's quite hit home yet," he said.

"I've been waiting for this for a long, long time and I've been knocking on the door. I'm ecstatic."
