Felton starts well in Singapore

Australian Kim Felton has made a positive start to the inaugural Handa Singapore Classic to be in a tie for third position after the opening round on Thursday.

Felton carded a bogey-free seven-under-par round of 65 at Orchid Country Club to be two shots behind South African leader Peter Karmis.

Karmis, who earned his Asian Tour card at Qualifying School in Thailand earlier this year, produced a flawless round at Orchid Country Club, carding nine birdies to climb into a one-stroke lead.

"I missed a few fairways but my iron play helped pull my game up. I didn't hit the ball well earlier in the season but my short game has been improving a lot. I have been working on my game in recent months and it clicked today," said Karmis.

"I'm here to win. I played well and that's a good start. I hope to carry my confidence over to the remaining rounds."

Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand signed for a 64 to take second place while six other players including Singaporean Mardan Mamat - a two-time winner on the Asian Tour - is equal with Felton in third place.

Scott Hend and Unho Park are in the mix at five-under, while Adam Blyth and Gavin Flint are a further stroke back.

Darren Beck, Marcus Fraser and Kunal Bhasin also made positive starts to be in a tie for 42nd at three-under.
