Allenby in the hunt

Allenby in the hunt

Robert Allenby remains in the hunt for the WGC-CA Championship in Miami after carding a one-under-par round of 71 in his third round on Saturday.

Allenby mixed three birdies with two bogeys as he progressed to 10 under overall, two shots behind leaders Charl Schwartzel and Ernie Els.

John Senden continued his consistent form with a 71 to be in a tie for 11th place at six under, while Adam Scott and Alistair Presnell are tied for 24th.

Geoff Ogilvy (T50), Marc Leishman (T62) and Michael Sim (67) are well down the leaderboard but they will be looking to finish off the tournament on a positive note on Sunday.

Three-time major winner Padraig Harrington is in outright third place after a superb 67 took him to 11 under overall.

Els, one in front of Allenby at halfway, had a chance to establish a firm grip on the event, but missed from four feet at the 13th and three feet on the 16th.

He returned a 70, while 25-year-old Schwartzel - twice a winner in his home country already this year - matched Harrington's round.

Schwartzel stayed with Els last week and growing up was part of the group helped out by the former Open champion's Foundation.

"I think it's a wonderful cool story," said Els, referring to the fact that they will be the last two-some to tee off in the final round.

"We talked about it, but I don't think in our wildest dreams we would have imagined it. It's great for South African golf and world golf - he's a new young star and a force to be reckoned with."

"He owes me big time? I fed him well and gave him good wine. He almost feels like a little brother in some ways."

"We will shake hands and then play 18 holes as hard as we can."

Harrington missed a birdie chance from under six feet on the opening green, but made amends from similar range at the fifth and birdied the long eighth as well.

His big move, though, came on the back nine when he picked up further strokes at the 11th, 12th, 16th and 17th - the last of those after an amazing 379-yard drive downwind.

"That finish leaves a sour taste, but it has no effect on the outcome tomorrow," said the Dubliner. "Who plays the best is going to win."

"I putted all right today and I hit a good second putt. What can you do? I will take certainly take another 67."

Meanwhile, Chad Collins sits top of the leaderboard midway through the second round at Rio Grande as organisers attempt to catch-up lost time at the Puerto Rico Open.

Play was suspended with only a handful of players having finished their second rounds.

James Nitties leads the Australian contingent at seven under through 12 holes, while Steve Elkington is a further stroke back, having completed both of his rounds.

Of the leaders, only Paul Stankowski had made it that far, sitting at eight under par after wrapping up his first round this morning for a score of 66 before going around again in 70.

Collins was one shot better off at nine under, having made it through 11 holes second time around. He only carded a 69 for his first round but an eagle on the 2nd - the last hole he played - lifted him above Stankowski just before
