Who will start for the Socceroos v Macedonia?

Goalkeeper

Ange Postecoglou has already confirmed Mat Ryan will be rested to allow one of the understudies an opportunity in Skopje, with Mitch Langerak at the head of the queue behind the Club Brugge incumbent. The Borussia Dortmund man is likely to take over at least for the first half of this one, with Reading's Adam Federici potentially set to come on after the break.

Defence - Tarek Elrich, Luke DeVere, Trent Sainsbury, Aziz Behich

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Postecoglou indicated Asian Cup-winning centre-back Sainsbury would return if passed fit.

Knowing what Alex Wilkinson can do, we think the boss should stick with Luke DeVere alongside Sainsbury after the Brisbane Roar man made an encouraging international debut in the 2-2 draw against Germany last week.

And let's see Tarek Elrich handed his first cap on the right in place of Ivan Franjic, while Aziz Behich deserves a run on the other side of defence, although Jason Davidson did nothing wrong in Kaiserslautern.

Midfield - Aaron Mooy, Mile Jedinak, Massimo Luongo

With Mark Milligan having gone home early and Jedinak, suspended at club side Crystal Palace, short of minutes, it makes sense to stick with the captain at the base of midfield.

Like Sainsbury, Luongo is due to come back if passed fit. And why not hand Aaron Mooy, who only got a taste of the action in the second half against Germany, a start to see what the Melbourne City man can really do at international level.

Attack - Tommy Oar, Nathan Burns, Mathew Leckie

Postecoglou has less options to choose from in attack. Tomi Juric travelled against the wishes of Western Sydney coach Tony Popovic and came on late in the draw with the world champions, but he is fit enough to start in Skopje? Perhaps not.

James Troisi was excellent at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion, where he scored the Socceroos' equaliser, but we'd like to have a look at Tommy Oar, who has been on the outer since the World Cup, a victim of Postecoglou's switch to a narrow variation of 4-3-3.

Although Nathan Burns and Mathew Leckie both worked hard and performed strongly against Germany, they could do with a goal to boost their confidence. The game against Macedonia represents a good opportunity for the strikers to hit the back of the net.
