Music legend Sir Elton has been a long-time supporter of the club and has played a huge role in the Hornets' success. John became club owner and director way back in 1976, contributing huge amounts of money as Watford rose through the divisions. He sold the club in 1987 but re-purchased it 10 years later for a further five years. While he hasn't been to a game at Vicarage road since 2006, John has performed two (free) concerts at the venue in recent years, donating all proceeds to the club.

Best results?
Watford enjoyed a golden period in the late 1970's to early 80's under future England boss Graham Taylor, rising from the fourth division to the top flight. They finished runners-up in the first division in 1982/83, competing in the UEFA Cup the following season as well as making the FA Cup final in 1984, which they lost 2-0 to Everton. The Hornets, with Australian Richard Johnson in the side, spent one season in the Premier League in 2006/07 but finished last with only five wins for the campaign. Their only highlight/lowlight of that season came when Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson scored a goal against them as he sent a long free kick into the back of the net.

The Hornets, also finished one game short of a return to the EPL last season, losing the play-off final to Crystal Palace 1-0.

What the fans are saying?
*"Seriously?! You've got to be kidding. I thought he'd long gone back to sheep-farming in the outback.  Please tell me why we need another aging defender - (he's actually 36 in 2 week's time). He has absolutely no pace!" - The BestTrip2011

*"So the best scouting network in the world has come up with Lucas Neill, christ, reckon shaquille o'neal would do a better job" – reggieb

*" Slow, old, finished. I have witnessed it first hand in the Australian A- league! Or is the A-league that much better than the Championship???? This is a last ditch effort by Lucas to go to the World Cup with Australia. We have been conned. Prove me wrong Lucas" - downunderorn

*"You all moan that we don't have enough leaders or enough people in the dressing room with English/Championship experience. This guy covers both. How is this a bad thing?" – 123466789
